Born in Saint-Louis, Senegal, on September 16, 1897, Battling Siki, whose real name was Louis Mbarick Fall, was the first African to become a world champion at the age of 25. Despite facing challenges integrating into the Western world at the beginning of the 20th century, he established himself in Europe and the United States, winning the world champion title on September 22, 1922, by defeating Georges Carpentier.
